Lower-carbon castings for future-ready supply chains
Requirements for more sustainable industrial production are increasing – and with them the expectations placed on lower-carbon supply chains. In casting production in particular, the melting process represents a key lever. This is exactly where we are taking action with GREEN CASTING: a new electric melting operation is being built at the Schwerte site, with production scheduled to start in 2027.
The aim of this transformation is to significantly reduce the direct CO₂ impact of the melting process and create the basis for more future-ready casting production. According to the current scenario, Scope 1 emissions can be reduced by around 90% through the conversion; the annual CO₂ reduction amounts to approximately 34,000 tonnes. At the same time, the transformation is being implemented without interrupting operations and creates a modern production basis for the requirements of tomorrow.
With the planned electric melting operation, we are creating the basis for significantly reducing direct CO₂ emissions in the melting process. According to the current scenario, this corresponds to savings of around 34,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year.
By switching from a coke-based cupola furnace to electric melting technology, direct Scope 1 emissions can be reduced by approx. 90%. This creates an important basis for lower-carbon cast components and more future-ready supply chains.
The transition to the new electric melting operation is planned in such a way that it can be carried out without interrupting operations. For our customers, this means that ongoing projects and series production remain reliably secured, even during the transformation.
The market for lower-carbon casting capacity is limited. With our investment, we are creating the basis at an early stage for available capacity in a future-oriented field that is becoming increasingly important for many industries.
With our investment in modern melting technology, we are systematically advancing our production. For our customers, this means a long-term stable and future-ready manufacturing basis.
As a full-service provider, we support components from raw casting production and mechanical machining through to just-in-time delivery. This gives our customers the benefit of clear processes, fewer interfaces and an integrated solution from a single source.
