For the environment, our resources and future generations
For the Beinbauer Group, sustainability means more than environmental and energy management. It includes the responsible use of resources as well as safe working conditions, fair cooperation, respect for human rights and responsible conduct towards customers, suppliers and business partners. This is based on binding standards and Group-wide guidelines that bring together environmental, social and corporate responsibility.
We manage environmental and energy-related topics systematically on the basis of certified management systems in accordance with ISO 14001 and ISO 50001. This enables us to continuously record, assess and optimise environmental aspects, energy use and efficiency potential across our processes and sites.
With the planned electric melting operation in Schwerte, we are systematically advancing the decarbonisation of our melting process. By switching from the coke-based cupola furnace to electric melting and by using green electricity from 2027 onwards, we are creating the basis for significantly reducing direct CO₂ emissions in the melting process. According to the current project scenario, this corresponds to savings of around 34,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year.
We use 100% recycled materials in our production, thereby strengthening resource-efficient material cycles. This reduces the use of primary raw materials and combines material efficiency with the responsible use of resources.
We place strong emphasis on the responsible use of water. Across the Group, a high proportion of the fresh water sourced is reused, recycled or evaporates as part of the process.
We improve the environmental performance of our production by continuously optimising processes, equipment and auxiliary systems. Extraction and filtration systems help improve air quality at our production sites and effectively reduce emissions.
For us, sustainability also means safe working conditions and binding standards. With our certified occupational health and safety management system in accordance with ISO 45001, we create a systematic framework for workplace safety and health – both within our own operations and in responsible processes along the supply chain.
A key lever for greater sustainability lies in the optimisation and conversion of melting processes to more sustainable energy sources. In this context, the planned use of green electricity also plays an important role. This is intended to significantly reduce local emissions.
Decarbonisation is a key objective of our technological development. By switching to alternative technologies, CO₂ emissions from energy-intensive processes are to be reduced step by step.
For us, the responsible use of resources begins with the materials we use. In our production, we use 100% recycled materials and thus make an active contribution to conserving natural resources. In addition, waste is almost completely collected separately and largely sent for recycling.
Since 2012, we have implemented measures that have resulted in annual electricity savings of around 7.7 million kWh. Based on the specific emission factor of the German electricity mix in 2021, this corresponds to a reduction of around 3,157 tonnes of CO₂ per year. This provides a reliable basis for the continuous improvement of our energy efficiency. With the planned use of green electricity from 2027 onwards, we are complementing existing efficiency measures with another important lever for reducing energy-related emissions.
We understand occupational health and safety as an integral part of responsible corporate governance. This is based on our occupational health and safety management system in accordance with ISO 45001, which provides a systematic framework for workplace safety and health. With our Group-wide Health & Safety Day, we complement this commitment with a practical format that raises employees’ awareness of health, prevention and safe behaviour in everyday working life.
Environmental management
Our environmental management system helps us systematically assess environmental impacts and derive targeted measures. This enables us to firmly embed environmentally responsible action in our processes and continuously improve our performance.
Energy management
With our energy management system, we systematically record, assess and improve our energy use. This supports the continuous improvement of energy efficiency and creates transparency regarding relevant consumption and optimisation potential.
Occupational safety management system
With our occupational health and safety management system, we create clear structures for safety and health in everyday working life. The aim is to ensure safe working conditions, clearly defined responsibilities and the continuous improvement of our protective measures.
